Your name: Luke
Character name: Jean Prouvaire (@IntrepidJean)
Character age: 25
Face claim: Caleb Landry Jones
Jean Prouvaire is the son of two scientists, a chemist and a psychologist, and as such spent most of his youth alone. While they were away on trips to offer aid in other countries or assisting in new experiments to expand their field, he was home with a nanny, attending private schools and learning young how to be self-sufficient. From a young age, he showed a prowess with words, making up poems and songs of his own while he played and creating elaborate worlds for himself and his imaginary friends, as well as his friends from school.
Raised just outside of Paris, Jean was far from a social child despite his ability to charm his friends with pretty words. He kept mainly to himself, and as he reached high school age, he began to show a tendency for extreme low moods, something which started to worry his nanny when his poetry began to grow darker and more grotesque. His parents would not acknowledge that there was anything wrong, for Jean was perky enough when they were home for it to be overlooked. Toward the end of high school, he reached his lowest point, and his parents’ absence just perpetuated that.
Finishing high school meant that Jean could move out and make friends of his own. Jean began university as soon as he turned eighteen, using his parents’ money to get himself an apartment in Paris and slowly starting to make friends in his courses. Originally a creative writing major, he switched to literature after finishing that degree, and then to professional writing most recently. He has begun sending in his writing to anthologies in the last two years and has gotten a small handful of pieces published, though he still rides along on his parents’ money simply because he can.
Jean was one of the first to join Les Amis, originally because he was furious over the most recent banned books list that had come out, for some of his favorite titles were on it - including an anthology he had been a part of. Since joining, he has taken to assisting in editing Enjolras’s speeches for him, offering more smooth words and more flourish to his ideas when he offers up his opinions. He feels more at home with Les Amis than he ever has anywhere else, as is evident by his constant attendance of meetings, even when he doesn’t feel up to socializing.
As Les Amis begin to make a difference, one of Jean’s biggest goals is to make enough of an impact that he’ll be remembered as a hero. He doesn’t mean a hero in the stereotypical sense; Jean wants to be known for making an impact despite not being anything particularly special in his own opinion. He often writes short poems about what Les Amis have been protesting, focused mainly around Enjolras and the others, but with him on the sidelines as an aid - it is better to be known for assisting than to be the focus.
Headcanons you deem important:
Jean is bisexual and polyamorous by nature, though willing to have a monogamous relationship if his partner so desires. He has several tattoos, including a large watercolor flower design on his back and a watercolor bird on the inside of his right wrist. (I’ll make a list of all of his tattoos when I find the links for their designs.) He has difficulty with social situations and suffers from depression. He appreciates the Romantic arts more than anything else. He is not close to his parents. He also has a bit of a temper and gets quiet and frightening when he’s angry.
